A cancer diagnosis can feel isolating as you may feel too tired or unwell to want to socialise, especially with those who you don’t know well. Often though, connecting with others outside of your immediate circle of friends, family and whānau can be helpful.

Connecting with others can be in a variety of forms including:

  • in-person support groups with those who have been through or are going through a similar experience to yourself

  • tele-health support with professionals who understand the cancer journey and can share strategies that have been useful for others, or can be just a listening ear for you to talk to

  • social media support groups

  • events, either sporting or non-sporting.
