The Santa House

The Santa House

For the past ten years Ray and Iris Franks have decorated their home in Glen Innes with an amazing array of Christmas decorations, including over 170 musical Santas, thousands of lights, train sets, helicopters, and parachutes. The house has achieved celebrity status within the community, and people come from far and wide to get in the Christmas spirit as they view this festive display of lights.

When Ray was diagnosed with bowel cancer, the Franks began to invite guests of the Christmas display to express their generosity through donations to GICI. Last year, though Ray was gravely ill in the hospital, Iris persisted in decorating the house with the help of family and friends. Their efforts raised a record $2966 for GICI.

On 3 February 2013, Ray tragically lost his battle with cancer. Despite her incredibly difficult loss, Iris will continue the Christmas show tradition saying, “This is my favourite time of year. This year it’s sad, but it’s still my favourite time of year and this is such an important cause.” Ray used to spend all of November putting up the lights, but this year his son Chris has stepped up and the community has provided support with generous sponsorship by Carters Builders and Countdown.

The Christmas display will be up from December 1st to January 6th. Head to 97A West Tamaki Road to get in the Christmas spirit, and support this incredibly brave and generous family who has done so much for GICI!
